Today's Definition: Loss of Heterozygosity

LOH: Describes a locus (or loci) on a gene at which a deletion or other process has converted (splice or insertion) the locus from heterozygosity to homozygosity or hemizygosity. The genes need to both be the same (eg, both must match from each chromosome). These phenomenon can lead to cancers by loss of tumor suppressor genes.
